Home

It's 3am and we are home in Portland with Anni wide awake. The other two are, thankfully, still asleep. I figure this is as good a time as ever to finalize this blog.

We got up early in Paris to catch a cab at 7am to take us to Charles de Gaulle Airport. Many people has warned us about the horrors of the lines and that they weren't kidding when they said to arrive 3 hours early for an international flight. Well, we made it through all their lines in less than an hour with ease, which gave us time for breakfast.
The girls had hot chocolate.
Kai had some soup in which he added the hot broth to the noodles and vegetables and cracked an egg into it to cook in the broth. Interesting choice for breakfast, but he loved it and maija joined him for a few bites as well.

Then we got on the plane. Oh Air France, we love you. You treat us like kings. It was a 10 and a half hour flight to Atlanta that went by relatively quickly with everyone watching movies, playing games and reading. The food was pretty good too.
Then we got to wonderful, friendly America where there are drinking fountains galore!  Customs took some time and we only had to wait about an hour before we boarded Alaska Airlines for home. On this flight we felt a bit more like cattle. I've always liked Alaska, but it was 5 hour 20 minute bumpy ride on a turboprop. There were no movies, heck, there wasn't even a screen to show us a map of where we were. We even had our drink and food service stopped because there was too much turbulence. But, we are home now, happy to be back in our beds.  Work starts for me in 4 hours, so the vacation is truly over.  What a summer!
