It starts in the bathroom, as most days do. But, who can resist a castle bathroom with a tiny glass window that actually opens?
Then the kids ran (adults quickly walked) up the hundred and some stairs to the keep. It was a squeeze and a squash to get up the spiral staircase.
In the keep.
Views from the keep.
Little chickens.
And back down we go.
The portcullis.
The last picture taken in the castle before I was asked to not take pictures. It was really an amazing castle that is still in use. Maija and Todd's favorite room was the library with over 10,000 books.
And then it was lunch time.
And playing in trees time. Next, we toured the gardens, which almost inspired me to quit my job so I could spend a year creating a beautiful garden in my back yard.
Bizarre crown being hoisted up by a water spray. The kids loved it.
Our chickens again.
Under an apple trellis, up to no good.
"Mom! Take my picture, it's so lovely here."
After touring the gardens we checked out the chapel.
And this is the picture that made me think Maija is no longer my baby girl.
And then we said our goodbyes to the castle.
Todd and Rod ventured to another cathedral and bookstore and Maria and I took the kids to play in a field near the entrance to the castle.
Several stinging nettle incidences later, we were back on the road again, headed home for dinner.
